Forecast for today: unimpressed. Visibility is good, expectations are low, and there is a front of mild contempt moving in from the north of my face. Anyone planning to charm me should dress for the weather. I have heard the opening lines. I have heard the second lines. I could recite the third line while doing my taxes.
And yet. Notice the second half of the title, because it is doing a great deal of quiet work. Willing to be convinced is not the same as impossible. It is a door left open exactly one hand's width, and I will deny I left it that way if anyone asks.
What convinces me is never what people prepare. Not the rehearsed compliment, not the dramatic gesture with a lot of lighting. It is the small thing nobody scripted: the person who remembers how I take my coffee and does not mention that they remembered. The person who lets a silence sit without apologizing for it.
